Rugby and William Williams
Have you ever been to a Rugby game at the Principality Stadium? If you have, you will know the excitement of the game and how everyone joins in singing the great hymn, Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah (Bread of Heaven). William Williams who wrote that hymn was a very famous person back in Welsh history. He travelled all over Wales speaking, writing books, and composing over one thousand hymns in both Welsh and English. His best know hymn is Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah and it is sung around the world, not only in churches, but at all Wales' important Rugby matches.
Williams probably would have never imagined his hymn as one to
evoke such great passion and energy among the fans of the sport.
We here in Llandovery, think of him as our special saint, who not only inspired the world with great hymns but put our little town on the map. When you are in Llandovery do visit William Williams Church on the high street and get a flavour of the legacy Williams left us and to find out about the Williams Pantycelyn trails.
